About Me
Howdy! My name is Murphy Rae Baker. I'm a singer, actor, and improviser based in New York City (Brooklyn, to be exact.) I graduated with my BFA in Musical Theater, Cum Laude, from Colorado Mesa University in 2021. MAV UP!
Originally from Houston, TX, I moved to NYC after graduating in 2021. Beginning in March of 2025 you can catch me monthly at UCB NY's Maude Night as an actor on Reunion Tour sketch team. In 2024, I finished a 10 month run as a cast member of The People's Sketch Revue at The People's Improv Theater, finishing off strong with our grand finale show at iO Festival in Chicago. Currently you can find me performing around the 5 boroughs with my indie improv team Pie Town! You might have seen us at various comedy festivals, at our past residencies at The Player's Theater and The People's Improv Theater, or kicking butt as 2-time Cagematch winners at UCB NY!
When not onstage, I do a lot of reading, re-watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Team Spike), and searching for the perfect guacamole. You can also find me at any local AMC watching the latest Florence Pugh movie (she can do no wrong).
Theater Experience
While completing my BFA, I got to step into the shoes of some vastly different characters that allowed me to scratch every acting itch you could possibly think of. Improv
When I'm not trying to convince my father to let go of tradition so I can marry a fugitive in Siberia or putting on a Bart Simpson mask to sing about the apocalypse, I'm probably doing improv. I was a member of The Funky Bunch Improv at The Woodlands High School for three years, serving as its Social Media Marketer and Vice President. I was then a member of Oddly Appropriate Improv at Colorado Mesa University for all four years of my undergrad, serving as Co Director of the troupe for two of those years. Since moving to New York, I've been an active student at The People's Improv Theater, Magnet Theater, and UCB, as well as 1/6th of the indie team Pie Town. (@pietown.nyc)
